- Hello,
-
- I've been having a strange problem with my modem (Practical Peripherals
- PM144HC II, internal) since I relocated the computer (486/33) from
- San Bernardino to Santa Monica. It appears that the phone line is off
- the hook when I connect the telephone cable to the modem. Sending a hangup
- command does not seem to help. The only way to get rid of the problem is
- to disconnect the cable from the modem. I can make a successful connection
- if I dial immediately after I connect the cable but if I'm late I get
- the phone company's standard warning beep for phones accidentally left
- off the hook. Can anyone tell what my problem is, or can anyone suggest
- a test to find out if the problem is the modem, the PC, the phone line,
- the power line or something else?
